Team stops Makin's Hat-Trick

Richard Latta, Bill Cooper and Barry Sweeny $4,600 richer after their win.

THE 2011 Evans Head Bowling Club’s premier event, the $10,000 Seaside Classic Triples, has been won by Richard Latta, Bill Cooper and Barry Sweeny. It was a nail biter going into the last round. J Finlayson was leading comfortably with Latta 4 shots behind then Makin 1 behind Latta. Scoreboards during the last round were eagerly watched between the 3 teams. Makin had skipped off to a huge lead leading 21 to 3 on end 8 with Finlayson 9 all and Latta 12 to 5 up the same time. By end 17 Latta was leading 23 to 7, Finlayson 16 to 13 and Makin 32 to 8. Makin at that point was 9 shots in front of Latta who was the only contender as Finlayson had dropped out of the race. Makin on ends 19 and 20 dropped 5 shots while Latta on the 17, 18 and 19th ends picked up 9 shots which put Latta in the box seat. Troy Makin’s attempt for a hat-Trick had come to a narrow end.
