Evans Head Bowling Club |

Another busy month at the Bowlo September 2008:
Well another month has gone by, many of our Mexican friends have already left us or are about to, we all wish them a safe journey and can’t wait for their return next year as many friendships have been made over the years.
The car has been raffled and ironically the winner was the person that we got the car from, Mays Motors. We were 25 tickets short of the full number but still managed to make $2500 for junior sport.
The Mixed 4’s are up on the board and by the time you read this the Mixed Pairs will follow close behind.
Tania, the girls and I went on the mixed trip to Brooms Head and I can sum it up in two words. “Bloody Brilliant”. It was an enormous success and thanks go to Terry Sheen for getting this started, well done mate.
Junior Roundup with Terry Sheen.
It has been a busy time for the juniors.
We held our first Junior / Senior Tournament at Evans Head Bowling Club, with a lot of assistance from Tania Cselka. Probably not the biggest tournament as we only had nineteen teams (we had twenty teams entered but unfortunately one did not turn up), but they played three games of fourteen ends and the winners were Amanda Cselka and Peter Carey, who took out the first prize money of $200.00. Amanda played wonderful bowls and Peter, who is one of our best performed bowlers, played very well indeed. We hope to run another junior Tournament next year, with the blessing of our club who was the major sponsor.
Stefanie Cselka, attended the NSW Combined High State Championships at Armidale, she played with the North Coast squad. There were over eighty bowlers representing their zones in this tournament. North Coast won the Gold Medal in this competition, and only lost one game. The competition was played similar to our pennant game with two teams of four players representing the North Coast and I am pleased to say Stef playing in the second position played truly remarkable bowls. Well done North Coast and well done our own gold medal winner in Stef.
During August we had a visit to Brooms Head Bowling Club, which Steve and Tania took the two girls along with mighty mouse Luke Jones to give our juniors stiff competition and they performed very well indeed.
We have a new junior girl join our group, Sasha Clark, and I hope training can be arranged for her. We would like more juniors joining our group as we have three qualified coaches to train them.

Steve & Tania would love to thank Terry for to taking Stef & her mum to Armidale, thanks Mate!
Men’s Major Pairs:
Wayne King and Bill Cooper had a good win against Vic Lindsay and Jack Kingman
22 to 10, this was a close game for the first 12 ends being 7 all but then it was all Cooper-King from then on winning the game. This earned them a place in the final against Peter Carey and Terry Sheen which is assured to be a good game.
Terry and Peter met Wayne and Bill in the final of the men’s pairs on Saturday 9th August, this was a brilliant game of bowls with an early lead to Peter 6 to 2 after a tough first 6 ends but then Peter dropped 10 shots in the next 3 ends to let Bill back into the game. Bill and Wayne took control for the remainder of the game winning it 22 to 15. After the game Wayne came up to me and said he is extremely happy with this long awaited win as now he has been in a winning team in every men’s event in the club, this is an extremely hard feat for a bowler to achieve. Well done to both players for an extremely good win.

Men’s Triples:
Terry Sheen, Rod Greentree and Peter Carey defeated Wes Koskela, Brendan Day and Tony Morgan 27 to 16. Wes Played beautiful lead bowls for Tony. Peter once again played magnificent bowls as skip and is bowling superbly at present. Well done to Peter and his team to get to the final and with their good form should go on to win the Men’s Triples.
Tips of the Month:
Till next month keep your bowls close to the kitty.
